1 Million Pillowcase Challenge

American Patchwork & Quilting® knows Quilting Changes Everything. That's why in 2010, we have joined the cause to Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference. Every pillowcase can make a difference in our community. A pillowcase can provide comfort for a cancer patient, hope for a foster child, encouragement for a battered woman, or beauty for a nursing home resident. To find out more, visit allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases.

Loving Stitches has specially priced pillowcase kits available for this cause. Or use fabric from your stash & drop off a finished pillowcase! We are also scheduling special pillowcase sew days to work on these as a fun group.

Our next sew day, Saturday, May 8th,  will be a memorial sew day in honor of our customer Jeannie Horak, who recently passed away. These pillowcases will go to The Special Olympics, which was a cause she supported.

QOV

The Quilts of Valor group meets at Loving Stitches several times each month to sew quilts for wounded and injured soldiers from the Global War on Terror. We have found a pattern that is simple string piecing -- a quick and simple technique for sewers of any skill level -- so any cotton fabric strips can be used. The string pieced fabric is then cut into star shapes and the resulting quilt is very patriotic! The soldiers, we have learned, particularly like BLUE so BLUE DONATIONS ARE ESPECIALLY APPRECIATED!

Quilts of Valor is NOT about making quilts to hang in quilt shows. It's not about politics. It's not about quilts made by the military for the military. While it includes the military -- active duty, retired, veterans, reservists, family members -- it is much larger than that. It is about AMERICANS, people who want to say "thank you" and honor the men and women who have sacrificed and bravely gone in harms way for our country. It is about making quilts that will immediately be anonymously be given to a wounded or injured service member by a military Chaplain. The quilts are given in love from the Americans who in some way contributed or helped make them.

The official drop-off point for materials of quilts meant for Quilts of Valor in our area is Loving Stitches.

Sew Red CampaignEach year, Loving Stitches supports BERNINA who has teamed up with the American Heart Association to help find a cure for the #1 killer of women in the U.S.

When you hear the term "heart disease," what is your first reaction? Like many women, you may think, "That's a man's disease." But here's the truth: Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. It is also a leading cause of disability among women. If you've got a heart, heart disease could be your problem.

The good news: Heart disease is a problem you can do something about.

Loving Stitches Prayer ListPrayer

We are all called to pray for one another and sometimes there are situations that call for the prayer of many. Thank you for joining us in praying for those listed below:

Meredith - Doctors have recently discovered a brain tumor in one of our Young Sewers. We don't have all the details as she is just starting the process of going through endless tests. Prayers are needed to help her through this difficult time.

Bob - has a heart condition that he and his family are very concerned about.

Jennifer and Erica - These three young women are pregnant and awaiting the birth of their first babies. Prayers for healthy babies and safe deliveries for all of these young women will also be appreciated.

Jessica had baby Mikayla on March 7th. Both still need your support as baby Mikayla was born with a heart defect. She's currently doing well, but has a long road in front of her.

Marlo, the granddaughter of one of our traveling customers - Baby Marlo was born prematurely, but is holding her own at 3 pounds. This family and their little angel could also use your prayers.

Vivian, one of our dear customers - Vivian is struggling with cancer treatments and additional organ problems, which are causing her to be in quite a bit of pain. Still she remains positive and is a true example of letting His light shine in all that she does. Pray for Vivian and her incredibly devoted husband, Sammy.

Jason - his spouse has recently deployed in support of the Global War on Terror. Marcus Osborne recently deployed to Afghanistan.

All the Military Spouses and Families - who have loved ones deployed in support of the Global War on Terror.

Retta & Brion - they will need lots of support with their adoption of a sibling group from Guatemala. We have heard from them recently. They are in Guatemala and the process seems to be going smoothly.

Harriett Creech - who is suffering from pulmonary problems.

JoAnn Digby - who has been diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer.
