We are so excited to bring Kaffe Fassett fabrics to our customers! These new and vibrant designs will sure make a statement in any project.
Modern quilting is all the rage and these are the perfect fabrics for those types of quilts. The young girls who frequent our store have been drooling over these fabrics.
We are working on some store samples so you can see how to mix these fabrics with other fabrics from your stash.
Be sure to stop in and see the beauty of these fabrics for yourself!

Christmas is coming and our holiday fabrics are beginning to arrive! I know two lines will hit the floor
later this week. Be sure to stop in and check out “Fruitcake” by BasicGrey for Moda as well as Sentimental Studio’s “Woodland Holiday”. “Woodland Holiday” has some wonderful cardinals in their fabrics, and I know these are always a hit with our customers. For a sneak peek, check out the “What’s New” section of the website.
Unlike Santa, who gets to take a break in the summer months, quilters and sewers are frantically working on their Christmas projects. As the heat and humidity of summer descends upon Fayetteville, we crank up our air conditioning to get in a cooler frame of mind!
As most of our regular customers know, our holiday fabrics usually don’t make their appearance until July, but this year we thought we’d give everyone a head start on their holiday projects!

BERNINA has released firmware updates for both the 830 and the 820. If you go to the “Downloads” section of their website (http://www.berninausa.com/news-n32-sUS.html) you will find the links for both downloads.
While you’re out there, check out the BERNINA Blog (http://www.berninausablog.com/) because there is TONS of interesting and useful information! One of my favorite sections is their “Free Stuff” area where you can find Craft/Project Instructions for some neat things! http://www.berninausablog.com/instructions
There is just so much information and inspiration out there that I believe I could spend the day just surfing their blog and being inspired!

As Memorial Day approaches, I know most of us are thinking about picnics this upcoming weekend. Please keep all service members in mind as you celebrate. In honor of all our service members, Loving Stitches is having a service project day THIS THURSDAY, May 27th, from 1:30 pm to 5 pm.
In memory of the brave men and women in uniform who have died protecting our freedom and in honor of those who serve us still, our May service project will be to make U.S. Troops Drawstring Bags. When finished, the bags will be sent to OPERATION CARE PACKAGE, filled with a gallon sized zip lock bag, which has been stuffed to the brim with things for the soldier who receives it. The troops can use the bags for personal use and some pass them on to the children in the countries where they are serving.
We have had a truckload of fabric given to us and we will use it, in loving memory of Jeanie Horak, for this cause, which she wholeheartedly supported. Therefore, all you need to supply are scissors or a rotary cutter and yourself. This is a great project for those who do not have a lot of sewing experience so won’t you plan to join us for all or a part of that day?

I know, you may think a fabric pencil is just a fabric pencil, but there is a difference. Granted, I learned the hard way, through trial and error….and lines that would not come off fabrics! I also learned the hard way before meeting Carol, who loves to share her knowledge.
My latest “find” in fabric pencils is from Sewline. I’m stuck on the Sewline Trio right now. You can switch from black to white to just a tracer. And, with just a turn in between, the tip retracts! I like that benefit as I am horrible about breaking the tips off my fabric pencils.
The Sewline fabric pencils make a distinct fine line on fabrics, which is something I really like. As I am doing more garment sewing, I need a distinct line to mark darts, fold lines, etc. If I am off on these markings, the garment can turn out horribly wrong. I also like it because it’s just like using a regular pencil or pen…you don’t need to add pressure to make a clear, crisp line.
It’s also easy to remove with either the built-in eraser, or warm water. However, it is best to test on a small swatch, just to be sure. Another cool feature is that when you run out of the black and white that comes in the Trio, you can refill it with a variety of colors that best suit your needs – black graphite, white ceramic, pink ceramic, and green ceramic. But I do love the combination of a black and white in the same utensil. It makes it easier to switch when your fabric has both dark and light sections and you need to mark across both.
In more detail, the black is your regular graphite – like a pencil. The other colors – white, pink and green – are ceramic based. Sewline has an innovative ceramic technology which creates leads that are strong, non-gritty, and more easily removed with the eraser or sponged off with a damp cloth.
I’m find that I use it for EVERYTHING!

I know many of our customers are absolutely crazy about black and white fabrics, so I just had to make a post to let you know that Moda’s line of black and white fabric has hit both the floor and e-store! These are gorgeous and fun fabrics. Half Moon is the name of the line and I have a feeling it will sell very well. I am already contemplating what I need to purchase for myself! I can already envision a blouse from the black paisley and a tote from the charm pack. So you had better hurry in to get your yardage!
For those of you who like the “Prest-O, Change-O” by Aby Quilts, just imagine this quilt using a black and white charm pack with red setting triangles and accents! Talk about making a quick quilt to die for! Actually, “Prest-O, Change-O” is just such a unique pattern. You don’t make setting triangles per se, it’s all a matter of how you lay out the squares and cut them. It really is magic!

Girls Having Fun
By now I think the adults have recovered from Friday night’s Young Sewer PJ Pillowcase Party. The girls – of all ages – had a blast! The young sewers raised enough funds to purchase and sew 42 pillowcases that were donated to ConKerr Cancer at Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center in Durham, NC.
The girls were so enthusiastic about sewing their pillowcases and then enjoyed a pizza party for their efforts!
THANK YOU to our Young Sewers and keep sewing!
