Serger Table Topper



Description:  


This is a technique class where you will learn how to use decorative threads in your serger to embellish your Quilt Blocks  table runner. We will use a variety of stitches: flat lock, over lock, rolled edge, and cover stitch, with decorative threads, sometimes multiple threads at once! No worries if you don’t have a cover stitch machine, you will be able to complete most of your project using your over lock stitches. Come in and learn what a thread cradle is and what it’s used for. Get that serger out and learn what you can do with it.

NOTE: the fabrics listed in the pattern are inaccurate, the amounts I needed are listed below. 


Supplies you will need for class:

  • Printed pattern “Christmas Table Runner”

  • Serger in good working order

    • Foot pedal

    • Power cord

    • Feet and accessories that came with your serger

    • Clear foot

    • User manual


  • Fabrics - the pattern doesn’t list yardage, just cut pieces so here’s my yardage. For the sample, I used different colors and combined fabrics D and E.

    • Fabric A: ½ yard floral print

    • Fabric B: ½ yard burgundy

    • Fabric C: 3” dark peach orange

    • Fabric D: 3” light peach

    • Fabric E: ½ yard cream

    • Backing: 30” x 30” backing fabric

    • 28” x 28” piece Fusible low-loft batting OESD Fuse and Fleece

    • (2) ½” x 28” pieces paper-backed fusible web Heat-n-Bond Lite


  • Cutting Supplies

    • Rotary cutter with sharp blade

    • 6”x24” ruler

    • Small cutting mat

    • Fabric scissors

    • Snips

    • Paper scissors


  • Threads

    • 4 cones standard serger thread in coordinating color

    • Decorative serger threads

      • 1 - 8 weight Eleganza from Wonderfil

      • 1 - 12 weight cotton Spagetti from Wonderfil for rail block


  • Needles

    • Topstitch needle size 90/14

    • Standard serger needle size 80/12

    • Upholstery needle or blunt needle for creating decorative accent


  • Notions

    • Water soluble Marking pen

    • Wonder clips

    • Flowerhead pins

    • 24” long ruler

    • 16” square ruler

    • Seam sealant
